Kate SysonKate Syson has been selected as Principal of Stettler Elementary School (SES), effective at the end of the school year when current Principal, Sharon Fischer retires. Syson has been serving as the school’s Vice Principal.

“Kate is passionate about SES. She is well-loved and respected in the school and community,” says Brenda MacDonald, Clearview Superintendent. “Kate’s connections with individual students and staff members is one of her strengths. She is focused on community and has a strong vision for the future. We are confident in Kate’s leadership and we are excited to see her in action as she takes on this new role.”

“I have been dreaming about this opportunity,” says Kate Syson. “I feel like SES is my home and I deeply care about all of the students that call this place their school, and for the staff who work at SES.”

Syson says, “I want parents to know that I take this role very seriously. I plan to work closely with the parents and community to ensure the environment at SES is safe, welcoming, fun, and engaging with a high academic standard to ensure success in all ways for our students. I am so excited to begin this journey!”

“My vision for the school is one that includes students first in all ways, care and compassion for families, rigour and high expectations set for our children. We will continue to provide deep and meaningful learning opportunities for all as we work to develop responsible, community-oriented, respectful citizens,” says Syson.

Syson has been teaching for 16 years, of which 10 have been in Clearview and eight years at SES.

Clearview’s Senior Admin team selected Syson as Principal after surveying and meeting with SES parents and staff members to find out their priorities for the future of SES, and after interviewing a number of strong candidates.

Syson says, “I would like to thank Sharon Fischer for teaching and guiding me, over the years as her Vice-Principal. I recognize that I have big shoes to fill when she retires. Also, I would like to thank my family for always supporting my career dreams. I would like to thank SES parents, staff and students who were rooting for me, and my doctoral cohort who have taught me so much. Also, I would like to thank Brenda MacDonald; she has been an inspirational female leader in my life. Finally, I would like to thank the Clearview Senior Administrative team for giving me this opportunity. I am so grateful.”
